How to plan a safari and beach holiday
- Safari first, beach second. The early starts on safari are easier at the beginning; the beach is where you unwind.
- Allow at least 4 nights on safari and 4 at the beach. Anything shorter feels rushed once you factor in transfers.
- Check the monsoon. Zanzibar’s long rains fall in April and May; the Seychelles is calmest in April, May, October and November.

What is the best safari and beach combination?
For a first trip, the Serengeti with Zanzibar is hard to beat: short flights, the Great Migration and a beautiful beach. For total privacy, pair the Sabi Sand with a Mozambique island. For an iconic honeymoon, combine Kenya with the Seychelles.
How many nights should I spend on safari and at the beach?
We recommend 5 to 6 nights on safari across two camps, then 4 to 5 nights at the beach. Ten to twelve nights in total is ideal.
How much does a safari and beach holiday cost?
Most luxury safari and beach holidays cost between US$12,000 and US$35,000 per person for 10 to 12 nights, excluding international flights, depending on lodges and season.
When is the best time for a Tanzania safari and Zanzibar beach trip?
June to October offers dry weather on safari and sunny beach days. January and February are also excellent and coincide with the Serengeti calving season.
