The other costs
- Park and conservation fees. In the Serengeti, expect about US$160 per adult per day once the entry fee, concession fee and VAT are added. The Ngorongoro Crater adds a US$295 per-vehicle service fee for each descent. See our Tanzania park fees guide.
- Light-aircraft flights. Scheduled flights between Arusha and Serengeti airstrips save many hours of driving. Each leg typically costs several hundred US dollars per person.

What makes the price go up or down
Season. July to October and the Christmas holidays are the most expensive. April and May are the cheapest, and many camps offer deals. See our green season guide.
Location. The northern Serengeti in August costs more than the central Serengeti in the same month.
Flights vs driving. Flying costs more but saves full days of driving. On trips under 10 nights, flying usually gives you more time with wildlife.
Number of camps. Fewer moves means fewer flights and a more relaxed trip.
How to save without cutting quality
- Travel in the shoulder months: June, early July, late October, early November or January to March.
- Mix one ultra-luxury lodge with luxury camps elsewhere.
- Stay three or four nights in each camp to cut flight costs.
- Look for stay-pay offers, especially in the green season.
