Singita Grumeti Lodges Compared: Sasakwa vs Faru Faru vs Sabora vs Explore

Choose Singita Sasakwa for grandeur and views, Faru Faru for a contemporary lodge above a busy waterhole during the migration, Sabora for the classic tented-camp feel on open plains, and Singita Explore or Serengeti House for exclusive use with your own guide and chef. All four share the 350,000-acre Grumeti Reserve, so you get the same wildlife, guiding and privacy wherever you stay.

This guide compares each option, who it suits, and how to combine them. For itineraries and prices, see our Singita safaris page.

Singita Sasakwa Lodge

Sasakwa is the Singita most people picture: a manor house on a ridge, filled with antiques and art, with cottages that each have a private infinity pool facing the plains. It has a tennis court, spa, equestrian centre and a notable wine cellar.

Choose it for: a grand arrival, sunset views, honeymoons and longer stays where the lodge itself is part of the experience.

Keep in mind: it feels more like a luxury hotel than a camp. If you want canvas and a campfire, choose Sabora.

Singita Faru Faru Lodge

Faru Faru is Singita’s contemporary lodge, with open-plan suites built from stone and timber, set above a waterhole that draws a steady stream of animals. It is close to where the migration passes in about June and July.

Choose it for: watching wildlife from your deck or the pool, modern design, and the western migration.

Singita Sabora Tented Camp

Sabora is a tented camp in open grassland, styled after 1920s explorer camps but with air-conditioned tents, a spa and a pool. It feels the most like a traditional safari of the Grumeti lodges.

Choose it for: big-sky plains, lion and cheetah sightings, and a classic canvas experience without giving up comfort.

Singita Explore and Serengeti House

Singita Explore is a small, private mobile camp, booked on an exclusive basis with a dedicated guide and chef. It moves around the reserve and suits couples or small groups who want to feel remote.

Singita Serengeti House is an exclusive-use villa with its own pool, chef, guide and vehicle. It is ideal for families and multi-generational groups. See our guide to private safari villas for families.

How to combine them

Singita’s Grumeti lodges are close together, so splitting your stay is easy and gives you different landscapes:

  • The Grumeti circuit (6 nights): 2 nights each at Sasakwa, Faru Faru and Sabora. From about US$21,900 per person sharing.
  • The migration journey (7 nights): Faru Faru, then fly north to Singita Mara River Tented Camp for the river crossings. From about US$28,900 per person sharing.

Prices are guide prices from our Singita safaris page and exclude international flights. See how much Singita costs per night for rates.

FAQs

Which Singita Grumeti lodge is best?

For most first visits, Sasakwa or Faru Faru. Sasakwa for grandeur and views, Faru Faru for modern design and wildlife around the lodge. Sabora is best if you want a tented camp.

Can I stay at more than one Singita lodge?

Yes, and it is a great way to see different parts of the reserve. Transfers between the lodges are by road and are short.

Are the Singita Grumeti lodges in the Serengeti National Park?

No. They are in the private Grumeti Reserve on the western border of the Serengeti, on the migration route. That is why off-road driving, night drives and walking are allowed. See Singita Grumeti vs the central Serengeti.

Which Singita lodge is best for families?

Serengeti House, for exclusive use, or the family suites at Faru Faru and Sasakwa. Ask us about age rules for activities.
